    OP-ED: Global Warming’s Impact on Mental Health

    In the last issue of The Knight News, readers were given a brief introduction of global warming. In this issue we will discuss the effects global warming has on mental health. The subject has been researched over three decades by scientists, because it is integral in understanding the consequences that extreme events, like natural disasters and fluctuating temperatures have on a person’s well being and mental state. Some of the mental health consequences which occur due to climate change include: depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, and suicidal thoughts.     Victims of abuse at high risk for birthing autistic children

    According to a new study from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH), women who experienced physical, emotional or sexual abuse as children are more likely to have an autistic child than women who were not abused. The study, which was released online in March 2013, states that women who experienced the most serious abuse had the highest likelihood of having a child with autism – three-and-a-half times more than those who did not. “Our study identifies a completely new risk factor for autism,” said lead author Andrea Roberts, research associate in the HSPH Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.“Further research to understand how a woman’s experience of abuse is associated…
