    Report uncovers alarming stats on rape and sexual assault

    Nearly one in five women in the United States has been raped in their lifetime, according to a Jan. 21 report from the White House Council on Women and Girls. Moreover, one in five women report they’ve been sexually assaulted in college. Often times, victims are “assaulted by someone they know, especially in incapacitated assaults,” according to the report. One in 71 men are also reported to having been raped in their lifetime.     Mother and daughter duo advocate for domestic violence survivors

    For years, Martha Zupanic, did not know how to escape her physically and emotionally abusive husband. After decades of a marriage full of pain and suffering, broken bones, hospital stays and fragile children, one day, she decided enough was enough. “I didn’t want this man in my house anymore — it’s mine; my family, not his,” Zupanic said.
