QC Knights Men’s Soccer Play to Intense Tie in Double Overtime duel against LIU Post

At times there was sloppy play, there was great team defense, and there were times on offense where it looked like either team could have taken complete control. In the end the Queens College Knights played to a 1-1 draw with the Pioneers of LIU Post. Coming into the game, it was a tale of two teams trending in different directions. The Pioneers were first in the East Coast Conference (ECC) heading into the contest at 8-0-1 and were riding an 8-game winning streak that saw them win their first three ECC games of the season. Meanwhile the Knights, despite coming off a win, entered the game 4-4-1 (going 1-2-1…

QC Knights Men’s Soccer Fall in Shootout despite late comeback attempt

In a back and forth game that saw a lot of drama, the Queens College Men’s Soccer team fell to the Lions of Molloy College 5-4 in the ECC opener for both teams of the 2017-18 season. The game began with both teams going at each other, and getting solid scoring chances early on, including sophomore forward Emgi Gousse having multiple shots on goal that did not get by Molloy’s goalie Raul Bonilla. The scoreless tie was finally broken at around the 14th minute of the game when Molloy senior midfielder Adam Carnwath scored to put Molloy up 1-0. The next 25 minutes of game time saw the Knights attempt…

    Men’s soccer kicks into gear

The QC Knights men’s soccer team opened their season on Sept. 3 with a tie against Philadelphia University. Prior to Saturday’s loss, head coach Carl Christian reflected on the team’s new players and the success the team has enjoyed so far. “We’re a young team, with thirteen or fourteen new players this year and honestly had you said to me that we could be three wins and two ties into the season with…

Slow start for succeeding men’s soccer team

The men’s soccer team began their season losing five of their first seven games, although the Knights currently are 2-2 in conference play. Despite the start, head coach Carl Christian believed the games were lost because of minor mistakes. “We’ve been doing things relatively well, but soccer is a game of mistakes, in a sense, where one or two mistakes can cost you the whole game,” Coach Christian said. For soccer players, the sport requires a lot of dedication. There are 17 days of preseason preparation and the season is two months of the academic year. The Division 2 program stresses the importance of good academic standing as well as…

For men’s soccer team, playoffs are the goal this season

After narrowly missing the East Coast Conference playoffs in their draw against New York Institute of Technology last season, the Queens College men’s soccer team hopes to achieve more this season. They are determined to reach the playoffs this season with as much work coming on and off the field. Head coach Carl Christian stated he, along with assistant coach Chris Bonawandt, has been preparing for this season with more vigor than last season. He believes the team can attack more despite losing forward Danny Stoker — who had 11 goals and four assists last season — and defensive leader Grant Edick. However, while he notes the team is stronger…
