Long Anticipated Album I AM MUSIC Debuts #1 on Billboard

2 mins read

Playboi Carti burst onto the mainstream scene in 2017 with his self-titled debut mixtape, featuring hits like ‘‘Magnolia,’’ which peaked at #29 on Billboard, and ‘‘wokeuplikethis*,’’ peaking at #76. Since then, he’s charted numerous times with his first and second albums “Die Lit” and “Whole Lotta Red” respectively.

Fans have waited in anticipation for his latest release “I AM MUSIC,” an album that makes a statement not only through its music but its visuals. Its minimalist cover has a message: let the music speak for itself.

On March 14th, the 30 track, 77 minute album was finally released on streaming platforms. As expected with Carti’s highly anticipated drops, the features were kept quiet until release day.  With features ranging from The Weeknd to Jhené Aiko to Kendrick Lamar, fans are given a diverse listening experience.

Without wasting any time, Carti opens the album with ‘‘POP OUT’’ and ‘‘CRUSH,” showcasing the heavy metal rap sound he’s become synonymous with and has pushed into the mainstream.

While not known for his lyricism, Carti gives listeners a treat on songs like “RATHER LIE,” featuring The Weeknd, and shows his flow on “FINE SHIT” and “BACKDOOR.”

Just when it seemed like the album couldn’t get any better, a solo track by none other than Lil Uzi titled “TWIN TRIM” was included on the album. For 16*29 fans, it’s a nostalgic reminder of their underground days and connection.

The success of “I AM MUSIC” was no small feat as it sold over 300k units in its first week,  making it the biggest hip-hop debut of 2025 and securing Carti his second #1 album on the Billboard 200. Just two weeks later on March 25th, Carti and his team dropped a deluxe edition featuring four new tracks.

It doesn’t stop there either. In a comment on BabyJade’s Instagram live, Carti teased one last drop writing “BBY BOI.” Fans should be on the lookout as it seems he’s far from done.
